Jungbunzlauer makes first wind virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for our Austrian production site

Sustainability is core to Jungbunzlauer’s strategy and value proposition. It plays a key role in Jungbunzlauer’s supply chain, from sourcing raw materials, energy and chemicals to the delivery of our products to our customers, through our fermentation and purification processes in our production sites.

We have focused for many years on improving continuously our energy efficiency. Three years ago, we started buying Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates as first significant step of our decarbonisation strategy. In 2022, 100% of the electricity purchased by Jungbunzlauer for our Austrian and German production sites was certified renewable. We are also accelerating the electrification of energy intensive process steps. In order to secure our green power needs for the mid-term and bring us closer to our long-term goal to be climate neutral by 2050, we now proceed to the next steps, which are to fix PPAs / VPPAs and to develop our own production of renewable electricity.

We are proud to have signed a first wind VPPA with Windkraft Simonsfeld to cover part of the electricity consumption of our production site in Pernhofen, Austria, with power from the wind park Poysdorf III located ca. 30 km away from our plant, for the period from 2024 to 2026.
