Jungbunzlauer has successfully commissioned a 30 MW high-voltage electrode boiler at its Pernhofen production site in Austria, marking an important step in the company’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance sustainable manufacturing.
The new electrode boiler will play a key role in decarbonising the site’s industrial heat supply by generating process steam at temperatures above 150°C using electricity instead of fossil fuels. As a result, it will replace conventional gas-fired boilers and contribute to a more sustainable and future-oriented energy infrastructure.
In addition to supporting climate protection, the technology offers several operational benefits. The boiler operates with high efficiency, produces no local emissions such as CO₂, NOx, or fine dust, and contributes to grid flexibility through load shifting and participation in balancing energy markets.
Combined with an increasingly renewable electricity mix, the new system is expected to reduce CO₂e emissions by approximately 7,000 tonnes per year from 2025 onwards. This investment supports Jungbunzlauer’s long-term decarbonisation objectives while helping to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of ingredients for customers worldwide.
By continuously investing in innovative technologies and energy-efficient production processes, Jungbunzlauer is strengthening its commitment to developing naturally better ingredients with a reduced environmental footprint.
