Introduction

ERYLITE® Stevia is a unique natural sweetening system based on the bulk sweetener ERYLITE® and the stevia extract Rebaudioside A. Free from calories it provides a sugar-like bulk, sweetness and taste. The plant-based origin of Rebaudioside A and the fermentation origin of ERYLITE® makes ERYLITE® Stevia fully natural. ERYLITE® Stevia finds application in foods and beverages – for tasty sugar and calorie reduction.

ERYLITE® Stevia occurs as colourless crystals of high purity. It is an odourless substance with a sweet taste. It is freely soluble in water. ERYLITE® Stevia is non-toxic and has a low reactivity. It is chemically stable if stored at ambient temperatures. It is not hygroscopic. ERYLITE® Stevia is non-cariogenic and has a zero glycemic index.

ERYLITE® Stevia is offered in different types, having different levels of sweetness.

Specifications

Jungbunzlauer ERYLITE® is supplied in accordance with the current requirements of the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) and the European specifications for food additives on E968 (erythritol) and E960 (steviol glycosides).

ERYLITE® Stevia is available in a granular fine grade.

ERYLITE® Stevia is available in 20kg net polyethylene bags.

Legal aspects

In the EU, there is a general approval for erythritol (E968) and steviol glycosides (E960a) with limitation in particular applications. (According to Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008).

Erythritol and steviol glycosides are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS), in accordance with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and current GMP, with upper limits for specific applications.

CODEX ALIMENTARIUS recognises erythritol (INS 968) as sweetener in ‘General Standard for Food Additives’ as ‘Additives permitted for use in food in general, unless otherwise specified, in accordance with GMP’.

CODEX ALIMENTARIUS recognises steviol glycosides as sweetener (INS 960a) in ‘General Standard for Food Additives’ as ‘Additives permitted for use under specified conditions in certain food categories or individual food items’.
