Senior Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly experienced and collaborative Senior Health and Safety Specialist to lead and support our health and safety initiatives at our large-scale industrial manufacturing facility. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), maintaining up-to-date safety policies and procedures, and fostering a proactive safety culture across the organization.

Your Tasks

• Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs in compliance with OHSA and internal standards.
• Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
• Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses; recommend and implement preventive measures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into all operational processes.
• Facilitate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and ensure follow-up on action items.
• Identify and deliver safety training programs for all levels of staff.
• Maintain accurate records of safety metrics, training, incidents, and inspections.
• Monitor and interpret changes in legislation and industry best practices; update policies and procedures accordingly.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior safety staff and operational leaders

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• Recognized safety certification (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent).
• Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in health and safety within an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Proven field experience in high-risk operational settings.
• Strong knowledge of OHSA and applicable regulations in Ontario.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
• Proficient in incident investigation, hazard analysis, and safety reporting tools.
• Experience in unionized environments preferred.
• Familiarity with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems preferred.
